post-clutch electrical problem HELP
I just replaced the clutch. I did it myself with my dad's help who has changed clutches in the past. When we finished, upon turning on the car, the RPM meter dropped to zero, yet there was revving. The check engine light went on. After backing it off the ramps, and out of the driveway, the rpm meter started working, and the check engine light turned off.
Then, driving it the next day, at a steady 60 mph in 5th, my rpm meter dropped to zero, and a stuttering noise started happening. The rpm meter started jumping up and down really fast nsync with the stuttering. Check Engine light came on. I pulled over, turned off the car, started it again, everythings fine. This happened a couple more times. Then, today it happened, only when I tried starting it again, it wouldn't turn over, and now, all i hear is clicks.
I was told it was electrical (obviosly), and it could be the leading coils. Its not the fuses. ANY ONE KNOW??? HELP PLEASE???

your trailing coils send the tach signal- check in that area for any wiring and/or plugs you might have displaced while working on the left side of the engine bay...

the trailing coils are up by the windshield right? And would that effect the performance of the car? I mean, now it won't even start. All i hear are clicks. Do i just check the coils and see if they are connected right? Could it be just a ground wire not connected or something?

I'll look at the battery cables, and i gotta get jacks to the car to look at the starter, but i did see a ground wire not connected to the starter, but it does slowly turn. I get "click, click, click" and a "wew.....wew....wew...." as if its slowly turning but far from turning over.

grounds
Did you hook both grounds back up.
There is a little ground that bolts directly to the top of the tranny with a little 10mm nut, its right next to the nut that bolts through the tranny that mounts the rear engine hoist spot. The other ground, a main one is bolted with the wiring harness on the drivers side, it bolts on with one of the tranny bolts. Its about half way between the top and botton on the drivers side. If its not on, along with the little one on top, you will get funny electrical problems that happen intermitently.

Try resetting the car's computer. I don't pretend to be an expert, but my car exhibited similar simptoms to your once, and this fixed it...
Open up the fuse box under the hood, remove the two fuses closest to the engine (EGI and Head) and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. Put em back in, fire it up. Make sure the EGI fuse is rightside up, I've seen it upside down a few times.
i still have no idea what was causing it, but that fixed it and I've had no problems since.

tried the fuse thing, because, orginally that was one of my ideas on what was causing this, so I took the fuses out and headed to the auto parts store. When i replaced them, still problems.
Regarding the ground wires, there was one i hooked to the clutch slave, and the only other one i could find was one hooked to the starter and tranny. That was off, so i just pushed it against the bolt and tried starting it. Nothing different.

Just pushing it against it won't do. You have to bolt it to the engine, it carries alot of amps.
After you have it bolted, you may need to jump the car as it may have not been charging correctly with it off, volts may have been high, but amperage may have been too low.

Also if the primary ground was loose, the other grounds tried to carry the starter load and may be heat damaged.
You may have to replace the main ground from the top of the bell housing to the firewall.

Well, after connecting a few wires to the transmission that i had seemed to forget about when putting it back on, i turned the key and car started right up. It was the negative battery cable, and two starter cables. (I didn't do the starter, so that part wasn't my stupidity). At least it works now. I'm so happy now because since i bought it about a month and a half ago, it hasn't worked right. Now it does, and i'm so happy
