possibly buying a t2 only i have a few concerns ,, what do you guys make of this??

here is a description of the car ,, here is the scenario. i would have to fly out to MN to pick this up. I live in CT . im just trying to figuire out if this t2 is worth it
i think i can scoop it up for about $1500.00

118,000 miles
newer battery and alternator, walker dynomax mufflers, high

flow cat, kn reuseable air filter, racing beat turbo down pipe.

air control valve has been removed and replaced with a

blocking plate. air pump has also been removed,

i have the air pump, which is included with the car.

exterior is in very good condition, there is a little rust on the right

rear fender, and the bottom of the door.

interior is in good condition, drivers seat bolster is worn.

wipers only work on one speed, it needs a new switch.

it will need tires soon, brake pads and rotors are good.

transmission shifts smooth and quiet, rear end is smooth and

quiet. the engine idles a little rough, and it burns some oil

i dont know if its the turbo, or the engine.

it may need a new engine in the near future

ill include pics. but what do you guys think??,, think i should risk it ??

You could probably part out some parts for that much, so i'd get it.

I'd worry about the air pump removed with no double pulley.
The water pump tends to slip, and this can lead to overheating.
With the water pump slipping, this could overheat the belt and snap it.

1500 is worth it; that's what I paid for mine. At 118k, it WILL need a rebuild. I know Turbo 2's can last much longer when well taken care of, but if it's modded then it's a safe bet that the previous owner ran the **** out it. Just make sure you let the owner/dealer know that you're aware of the possible need to rebuild. You might be able to talk him down a bit more. I'd say he won't turn you down if you fly out there to look at it, so get a deal

cost wise, it is worth it for some one in the area to buy it.... but, from the sounds of it, you are roughly 1,000 miles away from it. I don't think I would risk driving a car with possible mechanical problems, that distance. If you could tow it, it would be better, but that would add a bunch to the cost of the car.

i would wait for a good deal on a local car. it's a big risk to buy a car long distance like that.

its a t2 with 120k... will probably need a rebuild. might as well pay a bit more on a local car and get it rebuilt. the offset is the cost of tow + plane ticket.
