possible tranny rebuild?
hey guys, i have a 88 gxl and my gearing seems a bit off and its hard to find 1st while down shifting, and 3rd into 4th at high rpms is a bit tough. the sifter is as loose as a hooker in las vegas and the ranny makes whirring noises. signs of a rebuild or just something else?

It sounds like your shifter bushings are worn out. That will help with the shifter feel and possibly getting it into gear. It sounds like some of the synchros might be worn, but change the shifter bushings first and see how it helps.

That or the dealer. They shouldnt be bad on these, and you wont have to get them shipped.

I think you need one of each of the three that fit your year model (upper, lower, and one other) but wait for someone else to second that, as I've never replaced them myself.
