Question posi differential

My friend tac welded his spyder gears in his differential to make it lock up and it worked. Could I do the same thing to mine without any major problems. I was thinking of getting another differential to try it on and if it goes bad, I still have my orginal.

Eh....why not just buy a LSD? The whole welded diff thing doesnt go well with me. I mean yes it works, and maybe if it was strictly a race car, maybe, but on the street making tight turns and such I really dont think that would be a good idea..

welded diffs are only for trailer queen drag cars. get a real LSD and you'll be much happier. A clutch-type will do you fine (from S4 TII or '88 GTU).

BTW: Posi or a Positraction is GMs name for a Limited slip differential. So calling a locked differential a posi is radically wrong.

Even calling a clutch type Limited Slip Differential a posi, is like calling all refrigerators a Kenmore.

And you would only want to make a locked differential for a track car that was driven only on drag and dirt tracks.

The last time I tried to explain that to someone I got bitched at, so I dont bother anymore. Ford calls theirs "Trac-lock", etc. But noone cares.....its all "posi"

Just like everyone calls a copy machine a xerox, and everyone calls a facial tissue a kleenex.

Yes but people actually know the difference in those. People actually think that all LSDs are called posi, and dont care that they are wrong...
