The 6 ports actuators are located above the exhaust manifold. Two round shells with an arm on the upper end. The problem with the 6ports is they get carbon in them throughout the years and don't function properly. Since they are operated by backpressure from the exhaust, if you have an open exhaust they will not work properly. To check them, smear a little grease on the arm, take it for a spin, and see if the grease is altered. Note the rods push into the shell when they open.
I wired mine open for awhile with zipties around the shell and accross the compressed arm. Strong ties will work and not melt.
Wiring them open will slightly effect your low end. I only saw a slight difference in low end, and when open a nice difference in topend.

I did mine, and I have a high flow exhaust (N1 muffler, RB header, presilencer) and I really like it. I can still light up my tires off the line. Now simple stop light to stop light driving is a little less powerful, but top end is sooo much sweeter.

You will only see a top-end improvement if your ports are not working properly in the first place. Therefore, the best solution is to get them working properly, so you have the advantage of both good top end and low end power. Fix the problem, instead of bandaging it.
