Porting the wastegate... $500???
I asked my mechanic about porting my wastegate after I get a new exhaust and fuel pump and he said it would probably be about $500... Is this a correct ammount or does he just not know how easy it is?

I got quoted NZ$100-120 (US$70-80) to have the flap replaced with a bigger one and the port enlarged to suit the new flap.
I don't think your mechanic understands exactly what you've asked him to do.

You can pull the turbo yourself, port it and slap it back on. Die Grinder and bits will probably run you $50 or so maybe a bit more. But it is much advised to weld on a new flapper for porting to be efficient on an s4 WG.
S4 WG
S5 WG
As you can see the s4 WG is really small and so is the flapper. Even if you port your WG to the max of the flapper, IMO it still isnt as good as the s5 WG, so welding on a bigger flapper will achieve better boost creep elimination.
