Porting templates

I don't suppose there are any "public domain" porting template files out there?

There are, but they are kind of hard to find. I've seen some posted on NOPISTONs before.

But really, port templates are not too expensive when you consider the low volume they sell them in and the R&D work necessary.

It's not that I mind paying, but it sure would be nice if the port shape was die cut into the template. The engineering expense was recouped long ago, so $40-50 for a piece of sheet metal with an image scribed into it just doesn't impress me much!

Cutting the shape is actually good "practice". If you can't cut the template perfectly, then god help you with the engine.

No one really knows what the engineering expense is. How many engines did they have to build? How much dyno time was spent? How many ruined housings? And all to sell a few templates a month?
