How NOT To Port An Engine

allright, i'ne had other threads about this engine and various problems that i've had with it. well to make a long stort i pulled this newly rebuild shortblock out beacause it was burning TONS of oil and smoking. With the help of fourm members i came to the conclusion that eather one or several oil controll rings/holders were bad/missing. OR there was a bad proting job done. well i just took the block apart and found that there IS porting done, it does not seem too huge but i have no experiance with porting. i found a pool of oil in the rear chanber when i took it apart also.

S5, N/A

pitch those irons in the garbage and get some replacements and buy some templates, they are much cheaper than replacing irons.

some lessons are more expensive than others.

yep they're trash now. and yes that outer seal is installed incorrectly. the white teflon coated faces are supposed to be paralell with the iron seal groove not sealing the faces.

Who ever did the port work on those top 2 pictures needed to be shot. Even if it hadn't gotten to the seals the inconsistancies in the port would have caused some power problems between rotors.

Hey if you still have them and are planning on pitching them I’ll take them. I don’t plan on using them, I’d just use them well as dantheman_94080 said as paper weights if they are not rusted or carped up. I already have a white power coated rotor for a display. I would clean it up and have it coated as another display. Gotta love them rotaries!

Specifically -
The primary port exposes the oil ring.
The secondary port exposes the side seal ends.
As was said - the irons are FUBAR.
You're lucky if the rotor side seals are still good.

Yikes! No wonder you were having a smoking problem. I've actually seen ports that were worse, but not much worse. The secondary ports will eat the side seals and they all look like they go into the oil rings...

i don't know who built it, hopefully i will find out. I guy i bought it from lives in arligton and he bought it through a friend.... no wonder noone wanted to put this on there car. anyway the guy who i got it from made it up to me, i don't think he knew about the porting. But hopefully he will tell me soon because DAMN, i hope i could have done a better job myself.

BTW: i think thos thread should be archived for "how not to port you engine"
