porting its not hard
so i started porting my irons today, and it wasnt that hard. i see pics of ppl who really mess them up, and it went well. i used an air grinder set at about 60psi and took my time. there be pics of my progress. 1 question tho can/should i go in further at the top of the port or did i go in enough. i dont want to hit the water jacket or loose some power by leaving it un finished. if they are good enough im gonna clean it up with a sanding roll on a dremel.
thanks
Jason

I just did my exhaust housings, it is not that hard. However, the irons looked a bit more challenging. Mine where already done by atkins, so no worries there. I would recomend rounding out the upper part of the ports so the side seal has nothing to catch on should it fall a bit. I will post somepics of the atkins ports for ya when I get home.
Better pics would be helpful.

looks pretty crappy to me, and looks like you didn't spend the $40 for a simple porting template.
porting isn't hard at all
porting well is what counts, and that is not exactly easy to do...
you can give any monkey a die grinder and he can port but will it eat a side seal? will it flow better or worse? will it eat up an oil seal carrier? those are the main things to really think about.
can anyone do a decent port job? unless you have a physical disability that won't allow it then yes anyone can with some practice and patience. grinding out a hole is only the beginning of a port job. cleanup, smoothing, accuracy and consistency is what really matters, none of which i see in those pictures which could actually net you less power than with stock ports.
i probably wouldn't have come off like this but it sounds to me like you think your ports are done already.

those pics look a little better but still only the beginnings of a decent port. make sure all your angles are linear and not tapering smaller then larger as the port opens up. clean up the port with both small and large sanding wheels on a dremel, i use 120 grit wheels for a smoother finish.
the nics on the face of the iron won't be means for scrapping them unless they went into the oil seal tract, which they didn't.
