Porting the intake manifods

just wondering if this is worth doing w/o the tb mod and if its really worth it. It would be on an S5 turbo II. Curious what else should be done first and if there is any way to port the tb w/o doing the full mod. I wanted to do the mod but i don't really know if its worth it and want to knwo if u can port the tb and still keep the secondary tb plates in, thanks

In my opinion, it's not worth it unless you are very bored. There have been plenty of people here who claim better throttle response and more power, but I don't think anyone has done a dyno comparison.

If you have the manifolds and TB off for another reason and need something to do on a Friday night, then go for it. But don't take things apart just for the porting.

As soon as I get the new motor in my car and break in is done, I am going to run it on the dyno completely stock. Then I will start porting my manifolds, and doing some of these other elcheapo mods to see if they accually make HP lose HP, or nothing happens. This will take awhile mind you, I work a ton and barly have time to work on my car as it is. Ill start a thread when its all said and done.

I want to see those dyno charts when done. Please post them in this thread. I had my engine out and apart to swap and I did gaskett matching on my intakes and enlarged the intake runners each roughly 1/4 inch. After going as far as I could with the die grinder and cutters, I used a small hone for rebuilding calipersand a flexible shaft on my DeWalt drill. I had to re-dress the stones so many times, I wore them down to nothing by the time was done. As far as the VDI valve, I took some measurements with a telescoping gauge and opened those as close as possible to the port sizes. I hope for a decent gain after doing all this work, however I doubt there will be much.

Off topic:

Aaron, What happened to your complaining about no more "Jackaroo Chops" link?

All my testing will be done on a S4 stock port NA. New rebuild, all new seals, stock corner seals and springs, so it basically just like it left the factory, but with used housings.

Things I am planning to test
Manifold porting
Use of portmatched S4 T2 lower and FD upper
5th and 6th open and closed just to see what it does
Gounding system
And basically all those OMG 20HP for 10$ mods.

Dyno runs are supposed to be pretty cheap, so we will see what happens.

Supporting MS research is more important.

You wont really be bale to port the TB without remove the secondary butterfly's.

IMHO the only time this is really worth anything is if,
1. You want something to do and have nothing bettor to do with your time.
2. It is already off and you are waiting on parts "again nothing to do"
3. You are building a race car and chances are you would be making your own manifold.
