Unhappy Porting?

I know i am retarted for not knowing this but could someone please explain the concept of porting to me and what it does... Specically also the different kind of porting. Thanks

porting allows more air to enter the chambers. You basically make the ports bigger.
Street-porting is simply making the stock ports bigger. It retains the good idle and driveability, but has the least power of all the porting jobs.
Bridgeporting involves adding a second port next to the original one and leaving a "bridge" of metal in the middle to keep the seals in place. This type of porting has a lot of power(250+ hp), but you get a crappy idle and passing emissions is almost impossible. Driveability also suffers.
Peripheral porting makes the intake ports like the exhaust ports. This is a race-type porting, as you could never get away with it on the street. This type of port gives a lot of power, easily in the 300-400 hp range normally aspirated.

Do you know how a rotary works? If not this really won't make sense to you.

Hey can we discuss other types of porting like WG porting? IS this the same basic concept?
