port question

Does porting REALLY increase horse power? Recently I've been hearing things from people saying that I'd only get 30hp at most. But i have a feeling they don't know what their talking about. I was under the impression that I could easily gain 100hp+ from doing a J port.

yes. with added fuel, porting increases horsepower.
mo air + mo fuel = mo hp.
mo air + no mo fuel = blown engine
wtf is a j-port?

30 HP is more than what you'll get from any bolt-on, in spite of any advertisements you may have seen. That sounds about right for a street port. You can get more from a larger street port, a bridge port or a peripheral port, but you'll lose a lot of low end power, mpg and emissions (especially on a bp or pp). And raising the redline - by upgrading everything that moves plus lubrication - will add even more, especially when combined with a more aggressive port. A peripheral port plus a 12000rpm redline could add well over 100HP.

a j-port is a bridgeport with the an eyebrow that extends past the water seal, and therefore requires a notch being ground into the housing. it reduces engine life.

i would personally recommend a nicely sized bridge port
