Pops at idle

Pops at idle

Alright on my 87 turbo at idle, out of the exhaust you can here pop pop pop just little faint pops just at idle. I dont understand it i've tride to adjust everything i know rich lean, idle but still does it. Anyone know whats going on?

Hard to say without hearing it but could be as simple as an exhaust leak.

if they are very faint pops...i've heard that on a lot of fc's...might just be normal...mine do it

yeah mine does that too... a lot when it's cold tho.. also, it sometimes pops just right when i crank her up..

scared the **** out of someone just walking behind my car :o

Its from running rich at idle, especially when the engine is cold.

Yeah it could be timing, When i advance the timing i hear it more there more of them. also when i adjust the rich lean screw to rich i hear a crap load of pops. You guys think a super AFC would help out this?

I think there is all kinds of things that could cause the popping ... my TII only does it when hot, and only does it with the "clean" smog chip in the ECU... If I put my high performace chip in the ECU it goes away .. and I know its not timing related .. my timing is dead on.... I think its related to mixture myself, cause like I said mine only does it with my smog chip install, that I can live with.

it is mixture all the way my car is an NA and it does it all the time now but more on the down rev just flaming like a submachine gun.... a turbo guy around here shifts at 2k and pops footlong blue flames which is related to being rich at idle
