popping under rich condition

hey,

i'm working on tuning my car with a apexi neo (referencing pressure signal). i'm able to get the AFRs at WOT to what i want; but when running half throttle or so it makes and underhood popping noise (i;ve never heard detonation but thats what i would imagine it to be) at the point this the AFRs are rich (10:1 or richer) which doesnt make any sense to me and the boost pressure is less then 8psi. timing is set to factory specs, also running rtek1.8 so some timing does get pulled above 9psi.

thing pulls like a rocket at 15psi lol
