It's only been happening lately with it being cold, it only happens in the morning at the first start of the day... engine cranks normal but hear a pop noise or a muffled backfire and engine starts right up...just wondering what this is?? it sounds more like it is coming from the drivers side of the engine more than passenger side....Has anyone had this happen??

 

next time pop the hood and have somebody listen to the air filter when you start it, if the pop comes out of the intake it usualy means your running lean. but i dont know if a rotary can pop out the intake

 

alright, yea i need to narrow it down and get an exact location....then i can determine where its coming from if it is a backfire.
