Angry Pop goes the rotor!!!!

Well, I am driving the 87 today, and as I accelerate out of the turn in 2nd it goes pop. Limp it back to the garage. Do a compression test.

90 90 90 on the front. 0 on the rear. ****

so I decide to swap my spare motor in. So far I put in 2 hours of not so hard work and I got the Intake off the block, the wires all disconnected, and pulled the short block attached to the tranny. Put it on the flor and just started to swap over the extras. Hope to get it done with a couple more hours tommorow. But I broke an oil cooler line getting it off, so wait till Monday to get a new one made.

Surprisingly, everything on this swap is going along okay so far. Knock on wood!!!!

When it's time to go, it's time to go.

At least you have another motor on hand. Hope the swap goes well!

Having spare parts is the best thing in the world. I have 3 fc's, and tonnes of extra parts.I am just pissed I won't have a backup motor now. Oh well, I guess that means its time to go hunting for deals!!!

so its not all that hard to swap a motor then? all my friends talk like the rotary is a delicate thing, and not just anyone should touch it because something will break. but from what ive read, its just a simple take out and put in like any other motor, the hard part is just unhooking and rehooking everything back up

It's not hard to swap them out, i put a S4 engine into my S5 car, took about 2 days. I really need to get my S5 engine rebuilt. Anyway, good luck!

a 'seal kit' or a 'rebuild kit'? as for rebuilding an engine, sometimes you have to mic a few things to make sure they're in spec or check for runout (i believe). have you checked the FSM for any measurements?

unfortunately yes I do know what it is like to do it yourslef. Yesterday I pulled this one by myself, and I have done it once before without help too. It sucks.

I honestly think it is much easier to get it out, than to get the damn motor mounts to line up going back in, I always have to rechain the motor to the cherry picker to get just the right angle. Putting it back in you definetely need help.

Pumasquirrel, it is not that hard to do a engine swap, especially if within the same series. The first time you will take a while, but like anything, the more you do it the easier it becomes. Plus it also helps when all the emmisions are previously removed off the block.
