poor idle...

i was wondering if theres anything in particular i should look at that would cause my 88 TII to idle so poorly that it would die when standing still... any ideas? see mods in sig, other stuff to consider is that its idling at 1500rpm... and it only would try to die after i was on the freeway for a while, when i got to the streets the idle would be jumpy under 1k the whole time...

Do a search, theres tons of information available on bad idle problems.
A good place to start would probably be looking for vac leaks, checking the TPS, BAC valve, etc....

i already did a search, i always search first... i know the main reasons, i was just asking if anyone heard of this before, and if there were any direct causes...

anyways, the TPS was out of wack, almost unscrewed all the way, i followed Aaron Cakes directions and got it steady at 1000, but it didnt help out the idle too much... now it stays at about 1k-1.1k, and if i adjust the BAC, it will drop down and fluctuate fron 200k-800k and eventually die... anyone else care to chime in with specific directions other than "search"?

people love the term vacuum leak, huh? 3 of the 6 posts have the phrase, the other 3 are yours. i like to blame the AFM. i've had trouble with mine (i need a bracket) because its not level. it faces downward at times causing my idle to fluctuate.

but i thought it didnt matter too much about the AFM, mine is facing upwards due to the aluminium TID i have... hmmm, i'll try to even it out see it that helps... thanks for the new info!

well, it also depends on the angle.
if my calculations are correct, which is usually debateable, AFM facing downward should cause a more lean fuel flow, and upwards should be more rich. i've never looked at the AFM's cone to see how much angle affects its fluctuation (falling forward in my case) while the car was off, but proping it up properly fixed my idle for the most part. clearly noticeable without a doubt.

its weird because mine has done the same thing. its sparatic. for awhile i had to deal with it, then it stopped being grumpy. in short, i never actually found the problem. sometimes it idles around a good number(700-900), but not rock solid. sometimes it idles well (more 'solid'), but at around 1500.

but, if i recall, after a harder run or accelerating it would have a real jumpy idle. *still thinking*
