This car was posted for sale because I could not get it to start but after reading a few helpful threads I got it to start so I think I'm gonna keep it for now. I have an n/a 87 with the 13b fi. If its in neutral it revs ups just fine, but when I'm driving the rpms just slowly rise like there is no power. Its the same if I'm in 1st or 5th gear. Its like it wants to go it just wont. Also if I'm in neutral and give it alittle throttle there is a slight (pop, pop, pop) sound from the muffler sort of like a backfire but its constant. But if I give it more throttle its fine, the poping or backfire goes away. It has been sitting in my garage for about 1.5 years so maybe its old gas. Please Help, thanks. mike

 

after 1.5 years your gas has turned to varnish... drain the tank, change the filter, check the plugs for fouling..

then we can start diagnosing what else is wrong..

 

in-tank filter on the pump would be my guess too...might as well replace the entire fuel run while you're at it (all rubber hoses, both filters, clean the injectors, maybe the PD)
