Polishing vert license plate molding

Can the plastic molding between the taillights be polished to a shine? Mine is sun-faded and the previous owner had a sticker on there that I removed. So it has a sticker shaped non-faded section. Also has a couple key scratches at the lock.

Has anyone done this successfully? And if so, is it polished in the same way that clear plastic is polished? Or is it cheaper and easier to simply have it painted black?

It is just black plastic with a clear coat over it, so you probably can polish it up with a good plastic polish, however it will probably look better painted with a good automotive black and clear coat.
