Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Eh the stock airbox isn't too bad really... What more than likely happened, is you're hearing an increase in noise, as a result of running an open element...

The stock airbox is too bad. It's been measured and proven. The stock intake duct on the other hand is huge for this application (NA's) just like the TB, and would have a tiny pressure drop because through it.

Actually, I just replaced the same type of rubber/plastic on my Neon and it FEELS like I picked up some torque and a real nice tone, but I don't know about HP. My suspicion is that the accordion shaped piece was disrupting the airflow, as a means to making it quieter. I would think replacing a ribbed plastic/rubber system with the metal piping would increase your laminar flow, resulting in a higher velocity of air, at least to that point.

I don't know how much stock I'd put in that. I would think that the air going through that pipe isn't there long enough for any real thermal transfer to take place. Also, since it's the same amount of heat (like, not generating MORE heat) then I'd bet even if there was a difference in HP due to aluminum capturing heat, it wouldn't be for long. Worst case, I'd look for no change at all.
I agree, putting the intake over the exhaust is a silly idea, rubber or aluminum, but that's what Mazda gave us

ok I had one of those ebay prelude intakes in my car for about a week. Then I was talking to a friend and he pointed out that after running the car for a while, if you pop the hood the ebay piping will be much hotter than the stock rubberized intake pipe. I don't know about this corksport pipe, but it better be thin and very well made in order not to hold more heat in than the stock piping.

the only metal pipe that could be somewhat cold as an intake would have to be coated in a zirconium paint for quick heat transference.
I was thinking about fabricating a pipe with such a coating to bend in a way so it travels in front of the intake and down somewhere like infront of either headlights...preferebly the driver side HL so it's long enough to cool the air as it travels.
Also leaving a minimal amount of pipe traveling over that damned exhaust.
Would anybody agree with this Idea?

Ok...a Zirconium "based" paint, sorry, I had to make that clear that if the paint has a Zirconium paint, no matter if the piping is alluminum, the heat transferrence is incredible.
We did this on my brother neon and I can swear by it.
AEM has such a product for like.....lol, not as much as you paid.
