Gotcha, I knew it was one or the other.

I'd still think the effects of radiant heat on your air intake would be negligible at best. :P Ever seen an engine suck air? It just doesn't stay in there very long. If you lost a whole HP from going to metal piping, I'd be surprised.

I think this was said before, but I suspect the difference in performance is due to the cone filter more than the straight pipe.

Cone filter actually has a LOSS in horsepower in these cars unless its isolated from the engine bay.

He did nothing to help himself. You suspect wrong.

Sure, I could see that, because you're sucking in heat instead of pulling cooler air from the fender well. I'd like to see a before and after torque curve though. If nothing else, chicks dig shiny things, they can see their reflection

I guess those turbo guys are wasting money on their fancy intercoolers too, right?

Well, according to you guys, it doesn't help them any unless it's made of black plastic, right?

Anyway, you're talking apples and oranges. Intercoolers are placed right there in the airflow. It wouldn't work as well if you just mounted it under a base hood in the same location right there above the exhaust. Cold air intakes are better than under hood intakes, too, right? That's not what we're talking about here.

Let me restate, if you're having difficulties understanding: What I'm saying is that if you have two identical intakes, and one is made of black plastic and one is made of shiny aluminum, I doubt there'd be enough difference between them to shift output more than one horsepower.
