That looks sick! I plan on polishing almost everything on my motor, what did you use to do it?

I love that ragged red sweat shirt your wearing. It shows what you cherish. Awsome do it yourself job on that engine. YOU CAN EAT OFF OF IT!! Also did you do the port with that electric drill and those assorted grinding bits?

does the throttle body linkage still move smoothly after painted? did you do each piece seperately or just spray it as one piece?

i love this shirt too what a collectors item lol (its still my favorite shirt). Yes i did use the electric drill for the heavy porting and then the dremel to smooth it out then by hand to get a perfect finish and about the TB i painted that thing like 2 years ago and its never stuck no i didn't take it apart i dont really care for playing with those springs they get my temper going like a bastard if you want to see how it was done and before and after pics then go to search and type in "gashes on the UIM" and that will come up and also "FINALLY FINISHED" it's pretty much a step by step of this job <THANKS, BRIAN>

it's polishing madness this is easy to make. Take a GXL centercap, cut the tabs off of it grind it smooth, grind the top of your oil cap flat and epoxy it on!!!!!! then dand the finish off the face of the cap with 150 then 320 then 1500 and polish it out with mothers DONE!!!! and it looks like a mirror!!!!!!!!!!

The polish for the final coat will only last so long, less with the heat from the engine bay. A top quality clear coat will keep them parts shiney for a long time.

I've started a couple of polishing projects, but don't want to take the time that it really needs. That's why I started powdercoating my parts. Less time and the finish lasts soooo much longer. No going back and repolishing.

Great job btw.

When you get out here, bring some extra parts, I'll show you how much easier it is to powdercoat than polish.

Nice idea on the center caps, have a bunch of those laying around.

I'm finishing up the prep work for what I hope are the last loose parts for the 1st gen. Got a few pieces that still need coated.

Below is a couple things I've done.

On the 2nd gen the alt and the purple are powdercoat, on the 12a, I did the entire engine.

If you want to see more about powdercoating, check out the 'got bling' thread in the 1st gen section.

That's the anodized silver. I have a friend that wants to do the chrome when he redoes his TII, we'll see how that looks. I think the biggest problem we'll have is for it to look like real chrome, everything will need to be sanded down very smooth, i.e., all the sand casting bumps gone.
