plug placement
are the two top plugs on a 89 turbo the leading plugs (the on that go the coil pack furthest back), and the two bottom ones trailing (closest coil to the front)?????

No, other way around. Leading on the bottom, trailing on top. Also, #1 is the front rotor, #2 the rear. So looking at the LHS of the engine ion the car, they're arranged like this:
