Talking Please Tell Me How To Remove 5th and 6th Ports!!

I have read the websites reguarding using all kinds or crazy crap to open them. Everything from a Cadillac air pump to solenoids. How do you wire them open? I know a guy who did this without pulling his manifold, but his english is hard to follow (Puerto Rican). Help! I want to ditch the air pump on omy 91, but can't till someone helps!

All you need to do is use zip ties and actually tie them open. It's really that simple.

By the way, did you used to come on speedoptions as rico05 too??

Also, I don't think you have to wire open your 5/6 ports in order to remove the air pump.

I have a series 5, so I have to remove them, if I want to take off the air pump b/c they are activated by the air pump. And, yes, before I found this kick *** forum, I did paruse speedoptions.com as rico05. Now I just go there to laugh at rice!

Hey, you were there too, weren't ya! Any pics on wiring them open? I am kind of a dumb ***, and I attempted it once, but got lost and ended up just staring at the actuators for an hour. It creeped my mom out, me...just...standing...and...staring...

I know what you mean Rico, I haven't been able to get mine wired up yet either. I read a little on it, but not much, so I went and just stared at mine for a while too. Then I tried something, but it didn't work. Maybe somebody else will come in here and give us some pictures or a link to a site that has pictures.

I see we both came here at the same time! Thank god for that, eh? The other day I saw the most riced out Carolla (yes, a old carolla) and it had a HUGE speedoptions.com sticker on the back. Poor diluted ricer.

Hey rico, you're right, we both registered in the same month!!

I still go to speedops alot, but only for laughs and to participate in the brawl room and off topic room. That site is absolutely worthless for actually learning about cars.

For a series 5 engine, the actuators have a rod that extends UP to open the auxillary ports. As the rod extends up, you can see it turns a little tab. Well this tab has a rod that extends into the intake manifold and block(you can't see the rod). Attached to the end of this rod is the actually 5th and 6th ports(auxillary ports) Its just a cylinder with a hole in it. When the actuators turn the cylinder, the port lines up with the port in your engine block giving more airflow to your engine. To wire open the ports, remove both actuators. They are held on by 2 10mm bolts apiece. Then manually turn the tab to the open position. Then zip tie the tab in that position. Thats all there is too it. Sorry I don't have pics, hopefully somebody else will post some.

hey..

U wont lose as much low end and u will gain a tad up top if u remove the sleeves completly as well as the rods and actuators. The reason being is that the rods and sleeves create turbulense at high velocities. I did this but am tired of explaining how to take them out... if u like working on your car just do it... Other just zip tie them but dont forget to wire your vdi to high position to. Low position kinda sucks. Im bored of not having the top end i deserve.

Does anyone kknow if i can tie my vdi to high without taking off the manifold... im tired of taking it off.

Yes, you can, its kind of a bitch, cause theres not much room for your hands, but it can be done. I wired mine open in the rain with numb hands, and the manifold on. I don't think I've ever cursed so much in my life.

hey

Its the variable dynamic intake.... its on the middle manifold and swiches your small runners to your larger runners. If to much air were to get in at low rpms then u would have less velocity hurting your torque. The VDI is a swiching device. It works on back pressure from ur airpump. It stays closed when no pressure is going to it.

Yes, I used zip ties. The VDI works the same way as the 6-ports. Positive pressure(not backpressure) from the airpump, pushes up on the actuator rod, which turns a cylinder in the VDI manifold which allows air to go through a longer set of intake runners which is tuned better for higher rpms.
