I have a rather unique TID. I used one of the intake pipes off a 3rd gen's HKS intake setup. used a 3->2" rubber reducer to hook up to the AFM and a rubber connector between the TID and turbo. The BOV plugs into the whole that used to be used for the previous BOV. No problems so far... runs nice and smooth.

I don't have a TID!
I have my cone filter mounted right on the turbo, and I have my AFM right on the top IC pipe.... it really made a nice difference in drivability! No low end hesitation, because of the vacuum lag from the TB through the IC to the AFM.
Loks much cleaner too.

what does everyone do with the plug that is in the stock TID?? i was almost totally done with the Mod, but i didnt want to drill a hole in the new TID pipe for it. and if u upplug it the car stalls...blah!!!

anyone?

if your refering to the BOV, just put a one way check valve on the end of it, so that air can not be sucked into it. if your refering to the other vacume hose with the aluminum check valve on it, you can just leave it alone, as long as the check valve is still on it.

well its not the BOV, its a plug that "plugs" into the side of the stock TID tube. if you unplug it, the car stalls.
if no one figures out what im talking about, ill take a picture of it tomorrow.

I cringe when I think of the 150-170degF air that turbo must be sucking in. That's just throwing good, free power down the toilet. A TID and a cold-air intake will cost a lot less power than that filter location will.

bambam7, I wanna do that too once I get a new IC setup. NZconvertible, I get what you're saying, but why are all those big t04 guys and whatever other upgraded turbos with their standalone's just put the filter straight on? If I were to put the AFM in-line to the IC, then I would definately make a nice cold air box to go around it with plenty of ducting going to it from some nice cold air

I have no idea, you'd have to ask them. Personally I think they think it looks cool, but there's no good engineering reason behind it. Like I said, it's just throwing away free hp, and increasing the chance of detonation as well. Even with an intercooler you still want to ensure the coolest air possible enters the turbo.

Good point Jason, thats very close to that super hot Turbo... Oh & thanks for the mention of the 89 & up TID write up being the same as the 87 +88's...The write up I read said some minor difs, so I wondered?

I'm in complete agreement with NZ....
Back a little while ago when I was thinking about this, I posted a debate thread about mounting the filter on the turbo- most people, including some reputable sources, stated that it really doesn't matter too much since I have a failry large FMIC anyways. Now of course, the cooler the air going into the IC is, the cooler the output air will be, but I was told it really wouldn't make much of a difference.
I personally do notice a difference though- ONLY if it's very hot out, and I'm sitting in traffic. The first 5 seconds or so of acceleration into first gear (not even WOT) does feel a little less peppy. I noticed the same difference when I put on my cold air box seald up to the hood scoop. Much peppier off the line after sitting.
Now, I would prefer to have a nice TID, with a mandrel bent 3" piece, but it's also pretty tight right in that area, since both my IC pipes are right there.

can we get some pictures of TID mods using PVC piping from like a home depot or something. im going to do this tomorrow, im getting sick of tightening my freakin tid everyday, thanks!

I don't think you want to use PVC as I heard it can melt at relatively low temps. and the smoke is toxic If you're going home depot style, I suggest the black ABS plastic. I think there is some kind of write-up with pics on Scott89T2's site, 1300cc.com.

I got my TID from Banzai Racing. I live in Northern Cal, so I need my airpump and all emissions(Can't have Haltech E6K) and it is designed to work with airpump. I have seen an extra 1psi of boost with the TID. I am very happy with mod.
