Sideways on 2nd gear??!!

I'm trying to find out if something is wrong with my drivetrain or if I just don't know what the hell i'm doing. I'm running everything listed underneath and was dynoed at 240 RWHP at 8 PSI. I'm running 235/45/17's all around. Why can't I rip 2nd with this power?...are any of yall ripping 2nd with this tire setup? help me out.

What does the BNR stage 2 clutch consist of? I know my S5 TII had less hp at the wheels than a stock S4... (ran like ****) I put on a 6puck sprung hub clutch disc and stock pressure plate.. and I was able to chirp 4th...

Um, that's a good thing. That means that you're putting all the power to the ground. Horray for acceleration....booo losing traction.

I think it's more of a clutch than power thing. How old is your clutch? does it slip it all?

What is the treadware rating on your tire?

My tires are'nt wore out, and my clutch is barely a year old. I was just wondering if anyone would the same tire size(who is not pushing 300 HP) has the same symptom.

I would be happy with traction. Don't flaunt your traction in front of those that don't get any.

On the constructive tip: Maybe because of your wheel and tire combination? Isn't it harder to spin larger diameter wheels because of the increase in rotating mass?

That might be what's causing it, don't get me wrong..I love the traction, but once in a while I would like to let it rip and and put her sidewaysit would go soo good would the sound of a BOV!!....guess I'll have to live with what I've got. Thanx.

my clutch slips bad when i shift.... you might not notice it... but that could cuase it. you should be able to grab 2nd no matter what kind of tire you have (as long as you have a good clutch) i have 235's aswell on an n/a

I can rip 2nd and chirp 3rd in my N/A with the stock clutch/flywheel. Id think 240RWHP on a turbo should be able to at least do the same, even with slightly wider/larger tires....

Maybe the compound on your tires is so soft that you get good traction and they don't squeal.

I locked up my brakes one time and the tires didn't make a sound, I just slid to a stop. They were Yoko AVS's if that helps any.

Welp, since i've put the 17s on my car, i can no longer chirp 2nd. Well.. i see tire marks behind me, but the new tires are so bloody soft, they don't make a freaking squeak. They get excellent traction, but i know what you mean, you want the ability to lose traction every once in a while, and the only way for me to do that is to hit boost during a corner

with my previous tires (pretty worn) i could rip through 2nd, and a little loss of traction in 3rd. Once I got my bridgestone s03's, there is barely any loss of traxn in 2nd, they are super soft... throw all kinds of damn pebbles and rocks into the wheel wells like freakin slicks. it gets annoying sometimes. this is on a turbo pushing 200whp.

Im running a 265 on an 18x9" wheel with about 400rwhp and I can barely break them loose in second. Now when I use to have a 225 on a 16" rim I could spin them all the way through 3rd and the car was alot faster. The car seems alot safer with the increased traction so im not complaining. Be happy you have traction.

I've got near bald 205's on stock 16" rims; I'm pushing maybe 210rwhp, and I can get a nice chirp into 2nd, just on the cusp of breaking loose. I don't lose any traction into 3rd. I've got a set of 17's with 225 Bridgestones on the way, and I wonder what kind of traction loss, if any I'll get with that set up.

It really seems like judging your cars power by the amount of traction loss is a bad judge.

I always looked at the treadwear ratings on the tire to get a rough idea on how sticky they are.

My Bridgestone Potenzas RE71 are 140 I believe. And the autox DOT tires are like 50 or something. Then you look at minivan tires and they are like 500 and higher.

U guys ever look at those numbers?

hey 1fastT2, do you think that your car is really slower with the 265's on the rears? I was going to switch to like a 2000 mustang cobra rim and run 265's. Does it seem like you lose speed from the added grip cause you're out of the powerband or what? I've never heard that before...

Do you mean your car would accelerate alot faster or did it have more top speed..

i'd imagien you'd get up to speed quicker with the smaller rim but you'd get more top speed with the larger one

Guys I think its just from the additional rotational mass. The car does take longer to accelerate but I do not loose any top end. The tires im running currently are not much taller then the 17 tires I was running before. The weight of the wheel being its an 18x9 compaired to a 17x8 has a big impact on acceleration.
