please identify these trannies

i got both of these trannys from a guy that sells j-spec motors for cheap because i was able to sell a bunch of TII trans for him that he couldnt get rid of so i got the one and needed the other for the bell housing, he said the one on the top was bad or something the output shaft spins but it wouldnt go into gear so oneday i pop off the plate on the side of the shifter and theres all this gunk inside of there thats jamming it up so i cleaned out as much as i could and now it shifts.

so I would like to identify these trannies since there both good and sell them i just want to make sure i selling the right thing i would like to know what the trannie on top is from its supposed to be from japan but who knows and the bottom one is a TII correct? thanks

My guess would be that the top is an S4 TII, while the bottom is an S5 TII. They definately aren't N/A transmissions.

They are both TII trannies.

There are two easy external visual ways to tell o tell which is S4 and which is S5:
1) the S4 will have the word "mazda" imprinted on the passenger side casing, and the S5 will not have that word there.
2) the crossbrace mounting location on the tranny - the S4 will be flat, and the four bolts are all flat in how they bolt the crossmember to the tranny. The S5 mounting location is milled at a 45 degree angle and that is how the crossbrace is bolted to the tranny.
