I think it goes on a bracket thats on the upper starter bolt, im not sure what it is but i just replaced my transmission and saw it there, looked like it needed a ground, and it goes fine on that bracket, no problems so far. Just ground it somewhere i guess, i'd like to know what it is too if anyone knows

btw, very nice deal and a very nice car, take car of it.

The dangling thing should be grounded.

The black thing with the tab is the capacitor for the oil pressure sending unit. It should be grounded using one of the trans bolts.

This was recently added to the FAQ's. Check it out.

What is this little black box with a single wire and a small metal tab that is mounted near or on the clutch slave cylinder?
It is the Condensor (capacitor) for the Oil Pressure Sender. It is needed to protect the oil pressure gauge from burning out in the event of sender failure, and for smoothing any erratic pluses from the sender.

I saw mine like that after I changed the fuel filter and I have seen several other cars with it hanging there. I hooked mine up to one of the fuel filter bolts.

If it does indeed go onto the slave cylinder, why are so many found loose on these cars? I changed the slave cylinder once myself but are they so crappy that they get replaced on every car and multiple times? I would guess they are.

If I'm not mistaken you ground it with the top bolt of your starter (the one with the nut on it).

I would guess that when removed from the slave cylinder the capacitor falls (and dangles) and is then out of sight (and out of mind) when the slave is reinstalled.

I don't think it really matters where it gets reattached as long as it's a good ground but I'd think that on the engine would be better than on the chassis (like your fuel filter bolt) just in case the engine moves it won't strain the wire.
