Please help a noob

I'm thinking about buying a 90/91 RX7 NA...Love the car and the looks, but one thing bothers me is how I hear so many people needing to rebuild their engine so often. To the veterans out there, just how long do these NAs last before they need a rebuilding?

How much does it cost usually to rebuild a NA engine? Is it as simple as replacnig the seals?

Thanks alot guys, I appreciate the help. I just want to know whether or not I'm digging myself a grave by buying a car that's so old.

N/A motors usually last anywhere from 100K to 200K depending on how it was taken care of. I would suggest buying the car froman older guy, not some kid. Replacing seals requires that the whole motor is taken apart, and costs around 2-3K for the whole process.

Welcome to the forum, and read the FAQ at the top of the 2nd gen section, it SHOULD answer a lot of questions.

NA motors last long if the previous owner(s) had TLC with the motor, can last up to 250,000 miles.
125,000+ miles needs a rebuild soon, its better to do a rebuild then do deal with a dead car later on.
rebuilding an NA doesnt cost as much as a turbo, its in the same price range considering you have to buy the same parts minus parts that came off the turbo. if you want a rebuild to be cheap, do it yourself

If your not having compression or coolant issues then theres no reason to rebuild it at all, just take care of it and it will take car of you, hell my n/a motor is just about to turn over to 180K miles here soon.
