please help me get my tachometer working
ok great so it looks like i need the yellow/blue wire from chassis harness to be connected to yellow wire on coil..ill try that tomorrow and get back to you..thanks again for taking the time to do all those pictures and look up the info
the pick up coil is inside the CAS. Theres two pick up coils inside the CAS, one to the left and one to the right. ... CAS known as crank angle sensor.ignition distributor module which gives out spark... if ur not getting spark your not having a working tach..... my problem was my pick up coil ie CAS was not sparking on the trail plugs in why I had to replace it... I replaced it and tach worked along with replacing the trail coil assy.
13bturbofc,,,,,here is a link for you to see what the part is that you may need to replace.. this on ebay and its cheap so I would buy it man

I guess go by hailers word and posting about the wiring and crap.
I looked on the Haltech forum and the posts I read said they used the Yellow/Blue off the stock wiring on the Trai Coil or the Yellow/Blue off the bullet shaped check connector next to the Trail Coil assy.
So maybe you've undone the wiring b/t the Trail coil assy and the tach itself? Ohm out the Y/L from the tach to the round plug on the instrument cluster.

For 13BTURBO
Read this: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=stock+tach
Is that applicable to you?
I also read several post on that forum complaining about the lack of details from MicroTech relating to tachs/instruments etc.
And or read this thread from that Microtech site; https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=STOCK+TACH
Which in turn gave me an idea. Look at your stock LEAD coil assy. See the single wire black bullet connector? I've run a piec of wire from that bullet connector to the bullet connector on the TRAIL coil assy (Yellow/Blue wire) and the tach will work like that even if the trail coil assy is sitting in the house next door.
But you seem to be missing that Y/L wired bullet connector next to your Trail Coil assy. So you'd have to run a wire from the Lead coil assy to the Y/L wire at the four wire plug that attaches to the trail coil assy...

Or this thread and mabe the words by Karack?? https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=stock+tach
You mentioned a four pin plug with a yellow/blue wire in it. That sounds like the wire that should be going to the tach alright. Just should be the Yellow wire off the Trail coils ignitor that should be going to it.
The four wires in that plug probably match the plug I posted out of the wiring diagrams several posts above.
Seems to be a bit of confusion on the MicroTech forum concerning tachs. Seems different model MicroTech have different connections to the stock tach? mabye.

ok...first off i do have that barrel connector that is for factory testing..its yellow and blue, same color as the one of the wires in the 4 pin plug.. so as soon as i take that yellow/blue wire in the 4 pin connector and i connect that to the yellow wire on the coil then the tach should work, i havent tried to use the yellow wire on the coil yet so i hope it works..however in that first link you posted the guy says that i have to attach the gray/blue wire from the microtech to the yellow/blue in the 4 pin plug?? that dosent make sence to me, so basically that means the tach gets its signal from the microtech now instead of the coil?? i do have the MT gray/blue wire disconnected so ill try hooking that up too..
for whatever dumb reason i cannot find an online manual for a LT10s...i found one for every other ECU..so i have to search my shop for the one i got with the ECU..i think that should clear up the gray/blue wire issue..i always thought that wire was just to give rpm read out to the microtech for tune purposes
I can't verify if anything that was/is written on the MicroTech forum is right or wrong. I noticed that no one rebutted what he said.
The yellow/blue wire in the bullet/test connector is one and the same as the yellow/blue in the four pin elect plug, if that elect plug has the BR/Y, L/Y, Y/L and L/R wires.
Like I say, reading some of the ramblings on that forum, it leaves me with the idea that they have problems with the Microtech manual explaining how to get the stock tach to work.
Some of the jpgs I attached of the trail coil plug are not that clear. The camera didn't compensate for the bright sunlight very well. But I did finally get right what wires on the ignitor pigtail mate with which wires on the harness plug. I double/triple checked that. I'm sure you'll get it to work now.

well i finally got to work hailers!! and for anyone trying to get this to work..this has been a very helpful and informative thread thanks to hailers mostly.. but here is what i did. The yellow/blue wire on the 4 pin plug goes to the yellow wire coming from the coil! and thats it! it works like a charm now. thanks again for the help.. the gray with blue strip wire for the microtech is labeled as a tach out wire..i still dont have that hooked up nor do i know what its purpose is but at this point everything works so im not worried about it..
My tach has been out of business for the longest time now and I've kept up with these posts about it...I have an idea, I just got a Crane Cams HI6 and I mounted it on the passenger side kickplate...it has a tach output wire, if I splice that into the blue/yellow coming out of the cluster would that give it signal?
