No clock

Does anyone have a problem with their warning light cluster where the clock doesn't work?...in my '90 vert all the warning lights are working, but the clock is out.

Is this common, or is it just mine?

From what I understand, these fail all the time.

My S4 Sport has the same problem, all my dummy lights work, but the clock comes in and out, usually comes on when it's really humid which just makes me think it wasn't soldered very well.

Like all Jap cars from the 80s and early 90s :p

Everyone has a problem with the clock. Poor solder joints are the cause. It's even in the FAQ.

Can it be re-soldered to fix the problem then?

And is there a write-up for that anywhere?

Clock not working? So.... what's the problem? Sounds normal to me...lol

You can resolder it using the write up. I'm pretty sure the write up is hosted on another site, but try searching for it.

So you don't break the trim: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/clocktrim.htm

EDIT: Here you go... here's one. http://www.teamfc3s.org/faq/FAQ.html#s2ci

I don't have the problem. I have a 91 though, maybe by then they figured out how to not make it crappy.

The factory workers must have been awake the day they soldered yours. Hang onto it. It's a rare, collectors item.

Quite honestly now that I got my car running proper there are really no defects in it other than rust and cosmetics on the outside. Damn rust!!! But I think the person who had it before me drove it in the winter, and Michigan and Ohio winters are rough with all the salt on the roads.

Uh, no.
You're just lucky.

I've redone mine twice.
Apparently, I suck at soldering as bad as the factory.

Nice. I am really just trying to keep my first FC as stock as I can for looks on the interior and what nots. Just your basic suspension, gauge, and engine upgrades. I gotta say tho, now that I can feel what mine does it gives me chills to drive it. AND oh so fun.

Fixing the crazy clock is not too bad. You can start by resoldering were the plug goes at the back of the warning ligh assy. and then if it isn't better, open it up and do the pins at the back of the clock.

Mine's been fine for over 10 years.

edit: then you can try your hand at the CPU and logicon, if those aren't perfect.

My 91 vert was doing just fine till I had to pull out the warning cluster to replace the airbag light(when it know that was out the buzzer would go off). Now it is intermittent, although I have one in the CD player.

Update: clock works again

Well, after resoldering mine and trying a spare from a friend with no luck, I finally checked the thing I should have checked first: the fuse. It was blown. Replaced it, and the clock is back.

(FYI: it was the CIGAR 10A fuse that fixed the problem).

If there are any other S5 owners out there w/ no clock, I'd suggest checking the fuse box first.

(Note: same fuse also fixed my power mirror control).

Hope this helps someone.

i was geting ready to say the fuse. i got my 90 vert a few weeks ago and the clock, interior lights, and ac compressor wouldnt come on. so i did some looking around and the previous owner had all the dfuses pulled. i have no idea why hope it isnt something he did for safety or something, like it catching on fire or something lol. but know that the clock works it flashes guess thats cause of the bad soldering.
