Please help and do not kill me

I have a chance to get a nice fc It is an 89. I currently have an 85 gs and love it. But i found this 89 it has 136k on it. Has been setting for about a year and the guy will seel it for 200. Has a dent on the passenger fender. But he says it has bad valves??? I know they do not have valves i checked compression and it has compression and spark. But it will just crank and crank and never hit. Any ideas why it will not start it would be a nice car for the money hey i could part it out for that much proablly and it is not a turbo. I have an fb but the fcs are a world different

Man, if it has any compression at all (over 50!) it WILL start.
My guess is it's flooded, or some little glitch.
I would DEFINATELY buy it, you can probably get it running again for free. They will NOT unflood themsleves like a piston engine. You have to pull the EGI fuse, crank it, put the fuse back in, and try to start it. MAYBE pull the plugs, check them, crank it with them out, and then try again... Man, what an opportuinity!
I bet it wouldn't need a new engine, but even if it did, it's still cheap!!!

I agree with Bambam7. Just pull the EGI fuse from the fuse box (black rectangle box in front of the drivers side strut tower), crank the engine for a couple of seconds (with the gas pedal to the floor), then put the fuse back on and try again without touching the gas pedal. Sometimes it takes one or two tries for the car to start. You may want to do this after you pay him and after the person hands over the pink slip. You dont want that person to back out after the car starts

If that doesnt work get a compression test. Even if it doesnt turn on 200 bux is still a great price. The taillights alone run for 150-200 bux used. Good lucK!

They'll pretty much stay flooded until you unflood them. I havent had the problem yet (i say yet as im sure it will happen some day) but from what people i know say it will last until they pull the fuse and unflood it.

You can also try some ATF (automatic tranny fluid) and squirt some down the big vacuum hose on the intake manifold. On my 88 its right below the words 13B. Theres 3 hoses, 2 little ones and 1 big hose. Squirt some in there and let it sit for a minute or two, then try to start the car. Some1 with a series5 correct me if Im wrong about the vacuum hoses.

great thanks for the help. This car is so nice and i already gave the guy half the money so if i can get it to start. I will be glad to drive it home. Tail lights are worth that much for 89 tail lights?? Are they the round ones or something. I have a friend with a turbo II and he says buy it. (faster7) I guess i should i mean i check compression the same way i did on the 12a. Put the atf in it with the fuse in or out?? thanks who knows i may have a 1st gen and a second. does life get better than that? yeah it does add on a third gen too.

When my car flooded I pulled the egi fuse a bunch of times and it would not start. I got some atf and put some into that vacuum hose i talked about and let it sit for a minute or two. I jumped in and cranked the engine (all this with the EGI fuse in the car) and it fired right up. It smoked for a couple of minutes and the car ran great. Good luck with the car

I assume that the car is a 5-speed. I would give it a roll start, sometimes if the engine has carbon lock from sitting, or a similar problem a roll start can get her going...

Roll start when the engine is carbon locked, is a BIG NO-NO Housing and rotors will most likely be destroyed!!

Not only that but, If it's carbon locked it wouldn't turn over at all. hence-locked-up

With the EGI fuese pulled, you don't need to hold the gas to the floor. And actually, on 89+ FC's, you don't even need to pull the EGI fuse. Just press the gas pedal to the floor, and it will automatically cut fuel flow.

i had the same problem with my 87. the problem was that the gas had beenm sitting in the tank and got stail. it was just that it had bad bad bad gas. pull the line going in to the motor get a glass jar and hav someone turn the motor over and you pump the gas into the jar get about 2-3 inches in teh jar and look at it. see if there looks to be 2 diff kinds of liquid in the jar if there is to layiers then the gas is bad
thats what i had to do
good luck

Wow- about the 89+ pedal-to-the-floor fuel cut... I honestly didn't know that. While my old 88 had flooded, and required treatment, My 90 has never flooded, so I never had to do it, but, cool! I never knew about that feature!
Nice that they did the cut at WOT so the TB is wide open....
