Pintle caps...

Hey I was just taking the little o-rings that go around the injector pintle caps off, and one of the caps kind of broke off with the o-ring. I'm wondering if I can get away with just fitting it back on there like it's supposed to go and driving like this for a week until the new mazdatrix ones get here. What are the functions of the cap? Just to keep out dirt or direct the spray more? Pic attatched for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about...

It's just to protect the tip from flying debris.
You really don't need them, but the stock Mazda OEM lower grommets do not seat well without them.

I would just buy all the seals (upper, lower, o-rings, and pintles) from Mazdatrix and replace them all.

I'm not sure what condition yours are in, but my car would not idle/run with cracked grommets and 1 missing pintle cap.

if they are old and need cleaning have them cleaned at cruzinperformance.com and they replace all the gromets, orings and, pintle caps for only 12 bucks an injector for the cleaning and replacing of everything.
