pinion snubber recomendations
I saw only one pic after searching for about 1 hour of a pinion snubber installed. I searched the web for universal ones. I ended up getting a few differnt types of designs for the snubber. Does anyone havea pic of it on the bench or installed? Both would b great.
I still have some delrin leftover and it would b nice if I can just make one myself. If not, could someone show me the style of pinion snubber that best installs on our cars?

I saw this one
http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advance...es/snubber.jpg
Are they all using just one long bolt? Or is the stud molded into the polyurethane?

The Pinion snubber works. it stops the vertical movement as to prevent the ripping of the rubber front mount.
You call it "redneck" i call it "KIS" (Keep it simple).
this is the part you want http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/prt,42,31052
Help Part # 31052
Autozone says this part number belongs to a rotor or something. i called my local parts plus and they had it in stock. $6

Also very important is that this mod combined with a competition front mount and replacing all the factory rubber suspension bushings will reduce significantly and/or eliiminate wheel hop (which destroys your axels, stub shafts)
MAZDA intended this mod to be done by racers and already located the place to drill in the body (see pic)
I tried alot of different types and brands of pinion snubbers and I had the best results with
Energy Suspension #9.9101G (urethane). The one in the above pic is a rubber type.
You can buy it here for $10.00 a set (2 per set):
http://www.jegs.com/i/Energy%20Suspension/...-9101G/10002/-1
If you use this snubber shorten the 3/8" stud a little bit ( to make it easier to install).
Use 3/8" hole x 2" fender washer for shims (so you can preload the snubber to the diff ) I ended up using (2) of these washers for a very slight amount of preload.
And I used (1) of these washers on the interior side where the nut threads for reinforcement.
If you shorten the stud on the snubber this mod can be done quickly taking a short amount of time.
Drill the hole in the above pic.
Place a hydraulic jack under the rear suspension subframe, disconnect the rear suspension camber link and lower ever so slightly the rear suspension. Just enough to get the snubber between the body & top of diff.
Jack up the rear suspension to determine the amount of clearance/preload of the snubber to the top of diff (this is what the 2" fender washers are for - I ended up using 2 fender washers). You don't want an excessive amount of preload as this will slightly change the pinion angle.

You don't have to use a fender washer but generally a washer with a 3/8" inner hole & diameter of 2" will be classified as a "Fender Washer". The 2" diameter is important so it will support the total surface area of the pinion snubber and lessen the likelyhood of a failure if a smaller washer that didn't support the total surface area were used.
Usually fender washers are thin so getting the correct preload on can be more precise as oppsed to a thick washer. Most Hardware stores carry fender washers.
I believe in the old days large diameter washers were used to fasten car fenders and their undercovers to the car and were then known to be described as "Fender Washers".

just make sure you don't get the wrong part, one of the write ups on here suggested and even had a link to an energy suspension bump stop for a 2000-2004 ford focus and the part # was 4.6010g? something like that. Anyways, I think the original link was on summitracing.com and the part looked kinda like the black one pictured above with the cone shaped bump and 3/8" stud coming thru it. Unfortunately summitracing had them on back order for like a month so I searched the same part number on ebay and ordered 'the same' part. Unfortunately I got it in an found that it had no stud! just an empty hole! Anybody know how to make this work? maybe I could just thread a bolt through the chassis in that hole and just stick the bump stop on the end and it'll hopefully hold with the tension between the diff and chassis? I really don't wanna buy another freaking part.
Now I'm probably going to just use my delrin diff mounts with a used stock replacement front diff mount. Still waiting on my springs in the mail though.
Anybody ever broken a front diff mount while using the delrin rear mounts?
