Question PineApple 6-Port

Right now I am looking to buy an upper and lower intake manifold from a 89-91 N/A to put on my 88 N/A. I would also be porting the manifolds and was wondering about the six ports. I would like to keep them intact and working. Would you guys recommend the sleeves from PineApple or would you stay with the stock ones? Is there porting that can be done to the six ports and there sleeves? Or would you disconnect them totally and force them always open? Also, the six ports open by exhaust back pressure on 86-88 N/As and they open by the air pump on 89-91 N/As, when I switch to the later model manifold how would I open the six ports? I have heard in one previous thread (although I can not find it now) that you need to bend the six port rods and connect them that way. Info, ideas and links to threads will help greatly.

Only ways to modify the actual 6 ports is to skelitonize them, to do this, cut the sleeves from the intake side, forward on both sides of where the pin is anchored ( leave a few mm clearance to be SURE you dont damage the pins mounting) up untill your int he area that actually does the sealing you can tell because it will be roughtly lathed and not finished and smooth like the part that faces the enging and does the sealing, then across so that youve removed most of this rough lathed area. If your brave you can cut into the sealing area for a little more flow, but leave the entire area that closes the port, and enough that it still seals and turns freely ( i dont recommend this unless you know what your doing and have an end housing, and a few sleeves to test on where to cut and scribe where the port is when the sleeve is closed.) also you can lathe down the actuator rods somewhat, just dont touch the area that is in the bronze sleeve, or the flexible area, and leave enough of the "fork" on the end to actuate the ports with little or no play ( again you might need some rods to test on) and pineapple sleeves are great

Thanks, no how do you operate the 5th and 6th ports when I convert to the 89 and up manifold. I sure don't want to put my air pump back on. I have heard that you can bend the rods that open the six ports. Any body done this. May be I will understand once I have the new manifolds in my hands. Thanks guys your info is appreciated.

Hey James give me a call. I have an extra S4 core down in SoCal at Rotary power waiting for a rebuild. Hit me up so we can go over your options.

Peace, Rishie
