Pilot Bearing and Seal Replacement
Greetings:
I have a couple of questions. I have already did a search, and did not find the exact information I was looking for, so I thought I would ask!
I am changing the clutch on my 87 TII, and at the same time, changing out the pilot bearing. I have changed a couple of clutches in the past, but these two questions have always nagged me.
First, how deep should you set the pilot bearing? I noticed that my eshaft has a shoulder about 2/3 of the way down, on the inside. Do I bottom out the bearing on that shoulder? The manual doesn't say anything about how deep to set the bearing...
Second, when installing the pilot bearing seal, should it just butt up to the bearing, or does it actually slip over the top of the bearing?
Thanks for any information
Greg

Just put it in deep enough so that the seal fits flush with the outside...
And the seal butts up to it... although I think the end with the groove goes into the engine whereas the flat side goes outwards.

Use a deep socket and tap it all the way in, then give it another tap just to make sure. The seal just butts up against the bearing to keep the grease in, although I cant remember if its supposed to go in a certain direction, it should tell you in the instructions. Good luck.
