Pilot Bearing
Has anybody had any success removing the pilot bearing without using the proper tool? It looks like maybe I could cut it out with a cold chisel or maybe try to crush it with a screw driver.
Any suggestions?
I know I should use a pilot bearing puller but I just don't have access to one but on the other hand I sure don't want to damage the shaft.

I posted a method using a washer on this thread (scroll down to the 5th post). It's always worked for me, but I've never gotten any feedback on whether it's worked for anybody else.

I have used a Dremel..(rotary Tool..kind of Ironic name!)..I used a Stone.I cut the Inner part, and Pulled the race and Needle bearings out, then CAREFULLY scored some Grooves onto the Inner part of the Bearing's case..it makes the bearing Thinner at that point and you can grab the Pieces( it should look like Roughly 2 c shaped Pieces.BUT you do NOT have to Cut Through!)..with a Good Pair Of needle nose pliers you can Twist the Bearings case and make it Cave in onto itself, therfore making it smaller and you just Pull!..DONE!..it's out..(Note:not recommended if you are a Clutz!)
