Pics of the Race car, 97% done

Just about ready to fire the RX-7..

Hey! I wired it right! YEAH!!!!!!!!

Battery is temporarily transplated from the Trans Am, no air filter at the moment, gotta finish the PCV overflow tank mount, put some shrouding around the radiator, and bleed the brakes...

Yo,

Paulie, lookin' /sweet/ bro! You're gonna tear it up. Lemme know when you go racing, I'll pit crew for you. I can get a tire pyrometer, air tank, gauge, etc.

Hey, what mm is your Momo suede wheel? My Sparco is 330mm!! It's tiny!

hahaha

I got a probe type tire pyrometer and air tank too But, I can definitely use a hand at the track, I'll let you know soon.

The Momo is 350mm.. Still tiny, but it works great in the space allowed. Had to add a 1 1/2" spacer to the quick disconnect to allow my hands room and not hit the turn signal stalk..

Oooh, and I gots a Momo shift ****.. I shiftz mad quik yo!

Yo,

From the intake, I'd say 86-88. Plus the car is a Series 4....

What have I done to it?

Ugh, that's a hell of a list. Let me recap

Started with an 88 GXL, pulsation dampner fire took out most of the rubber and wiring but saved the car. It sat for a year or so, until I decided I had to build a race car or junk the thing.. Sometimes I think I made the right choice, but most of the time.....

Suspension: Delrin bushings all around, Koni SA shocks with MazdaSpeed (aka Mazda Motorsports aka Mazda Competition parts) coil overs.. Eibach 400/275 springs, stock swaybars for now, we'll see how that goes.

Wheels/Tires: Eventually Kosei K1s with 225/50/15 Toyo Proxes RA-1s

Engine: 89 block/intake manifold, 88 ECU/AFM/Wiring/Throttlebody/Injectors. No smog, no vacuum **** (except the oil injection, which has to remain even though I'm using premix). Racing Beat header, pulleys (dual belt). Oil baffle plate, SS oil cooler lines, Griffin radiator (and way overengineered radiator mount)

Chassis: New engine/trans/Diff mounts, rebuilt trans, rebuilt brakes (stock required) with Carbotech Panther Plus pads, 8 pt. custom roll cage, Kirkey Intermediate seat, Momo wheel/shiftknob , some kind of pedal pads, trick sequential shiftlight, Autometer guages (not installed yet), Simpson harnesses, TeamTech window net, Wilwood brake proportioning valve..

Ok, so I put down everything, sue me

Future stuff (that I don't expect to do in the next week or two)

Hardened lug studs, new rear bearings, 4.88 rear gears..

Today, 5/4/2002 at 9:21pm, Rarest RX7 made a mistake

Good call DCMina

The mini wing is the result of an open rear hatch. Wanna hear the story on why that hatch isn't closed? NO? Too bad

The inside hatch release cable has always worked, but we keep taking the rear hatch on and off as we worked on the car. Finally, it came time to reinstall the hatch for the final time. Went on, latched, no problems.. Until we tried to open the damn thing.. Nada. And of course, I hadn't gotten the exterior key to work right (WTF cares if it works, right?).. So dad had to crawl thru the roll cage (gawd knows my lard *** isn't going to) to release it from the inside!

Yo,

Well, that'd be my first mistake. I'm glad you've logged the time and date. *grin* I'm allowed one mistake every 2 years on this Forum.

Hell yes I wanna know.

E-mail me offline: pcabana@newsguy.com

You're forgiven for the mistake, the car is a frankenstein.. The fact that the lights turned on is a major accomplishment in my book

Primer? PRIMER? Gasp... Cough... ACK! I've been murdered!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, tha'ts smoke gray Krylon out of the can, primer, then spray paint. WHen the shot the yellow, they got tons of yellow overspray, now it looks hideous and rough, it was glossy and smooth before.

I did it that way so if I decide to repaint the car a different color, I didn't have to worry about painting the engine bay or the interior..

I know guys that run Kumho V700s on the street, RA-1s would last longer than those..

F***s up the paint, from all the little rocks you kick up, though..

Yo,

Awwww hell, I can't be havin' that on my baby! *grin* I'll have to get that plastic static cling stuff to stick on my rocker panels. The dude I know runs RA-1s on his FD, he says they last hella long on the street. They're endurance race tires, he says. Who am I to argue?

And today at 7:56pm, the RX-7 fired off

WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Open Header is f*cking LOUD.. The neighbors came out to see what hit their house after a backfire (timing isn't right)

Tomorrow I get it to idle right, and finish the brakes.

That is so sweet!
I like the grey engine bay especially against the yellow body.
Let us know when you take it out. I'm close enough to go watch and if you need any help...

Way to go, I've been waiting for that thing. Now roadrace CYMFC3S so we can be content w/ pimped out yellow FC's

And I like the hatch mod, looks good, now just add spacers to the hood mounts so you can be twice as JDM!

And I think people actually do that on high speed runs to combat cabin pressure (I mean real high speed runs like 200+)
