Rotarymaz, how do you like that Kirk Rollbar? Ive been condisering getting one for my vert. Mine is red also and I think it really looks good in the car. Just a few quick questions though. Are you still able to raise and lower the windblocker, how much seat travel did you lose, and how much did it cost? Also do you have any more pics of your car with it showing, maybe some side or front shots? Thanks

-Mike

The wrecked t2 is a S5. Itis located at a junk yard my buddy works at. I could get it for free but he would charge anyone outside of his close freinds. And since I am his only freind that has a RX-7 I make the perfect candidate.

Too bad I moved from Ohio 5 years ago. Of course the lack of humidity out here in Cali makes up for it.

What would the not a close friend price be on the tII?

Not like I have a hope here, since 1) My 'vert is my daily driver. 2) The n/a engine is in fine shape 3) It's an automatic, making the conversion even more of a headache 4) I'm quitting my job at the end of May to travel the world 5) I'm headed to MBA school in the fall 6) I just broke up with my girlfriend

A sign from God, huh. Just quit adding oil to your car. God will visit you in a few months.

The "not a friend price" is probably cheap. I could ask him next time I see him.

If you want to make some money, get it from him and I'll pay you for it

i thought convertible 7s were never made with a turbocharger. so either ive been misinformed or youve done a lot of work on this car, did you chage the T2 to a convertible, or a convertible to a t2?
convertible TII's were made, but not sold to North America.....u could find them in Japan, Australia, NZ or in Europe...there is bunch of them for sale in Germany, but not cheap if running..

You guys may be right about my HP, but I really don’t know until I can take it to a dyno. I wish the AZ rotary club would have a dyno day soon.

As far as the work goes, I had a shop import a whole front clip from Japan and they did most of the work under my supervision. They were really slow and were ******* everything up at first. That’s why it took a freaking year to do the job. I ended up having to threaten to sue their *** before they finally got their act together and finish my car. They were trying to do too much at a time. Aside from my car, they were doing a couple of Jspec conversions too, a Nissan 20BET conversion and a couple of Hondas also. The good thing is because they took so long for the job, I ended up paying them only $1,500 for the front clip and all the labor. Of course I had to pay for extra parts along the way, like the TII LSD, driveshaft and halfshaft. Right now the car runs great. I just have to hook up my new stereo and a couple of more gauges. I have boost and A/F right now, but want to add a Temp. and EGT.

The Kirks rollbar was a great buy, I would recommend it to any vert owner. It fits perfect and looks kickass with the top down. The cost was around $210 I think. I have the bar without the crossbar, so I have no problem with my windblocker. I really didn’t notice any seat travel problem, but I am only 5’6” thou. I was thinking of printing it to match the exterior color, but not really sure. What do you guys think?

Well, here’s a link to a couple of pictures of my car, before, during and after the conversion.

Damn.

Just looking at your pics...I think I am going to change my mind in selling my vert. I was considering doing the swap...but, would rather have a normal s5 T2.

Those pics have re-inspired me to go ahead and do it. all I actually need is the entire engine assy. I will have to save up...I will have it done by November.

Damn.....just wait. I post my pics at the end of this year.

Yeah!!!

I had the Kirk Racing roll bar in my 91 white vert, and painted it white to match the car. It turned out really nice, and made it stand out quite well. I wish I hadn't ordered it with that crossbar. I would probably still have it if I hadn't. Anyway, I have pics of the bar in the car painted to match that you can check out. Here is one, and there are more on my site under the picture gallery #1 and #2 and on the How-To under Safety.

Hope that helps in your decision

Dave, you probably don't remember, but you were the one that refer me to the Kirk rollbar. I saw it on your website and emailed you about it. You're right about the painted bar standing out. I think, I'm going to get my bar either painted or powder coated red. Thanks.

kirk bar...

About the Kirk rollbar, I'm considering getting one for my 88 vert. It's good to hear a second positive opinion of it. the only other one I saw was fc3s.org's ... Got a question though.. That crossbar - is that what you would hook up a harness to? I want to attend a driving school and I think their rules require a harness in any open car. And can they give you the bar with a bolt-in crossbar so it doesn't mess with your wind guard?

Also, does it get in the way of your rear view mirror?

Hmm. If you're 5'6 it might not affect me then...

Anyway this is my first message here so if I screwed anything up and you get this in like size 20 font on a different thread or something, sorry..

Yes, you can hook up the harness to the crossbar. But I don't know if they have bolt-in crossbars. You might have to contact Kirk for that info. The bar does take up some of your rear view mirror, but if you have the top down, it's really not much of a problem.
