TII question..

ok I have a 13 year old that loves my 3rd gen..
Im not willing to drop the 12-17K to get her one when she get old enough to drive.. I was thinking of a 89-91 n/a or TII.. I would like to get one that needs alittle work as we ( I ) can work on it before she turns 15 1/2 (she can drive then as she lives on a farm). think it would be for a frist time car...

An n/a 2nd gen would be a good first car if she likes RX-7's. Pretty quick, modding potential, more reliable than forced induction, easier to work on etc. Insurance would be cheaper, and it would be a car that would be easier for a new driver to handle. High power rwd + inexperienced driver = potential trouble. But, I have nothing against fast cars so if you think she can handle it, go for a TII.

That is one lucky girl. The tii will provide more power... depending on your safty concerns. The insurance difference will be neglegable, due to the age of the cars. The important thing is to find one with a great body, (no rust, rot, etc...). The engine work will be expensive, but you said you wanted to work on it yourself. I think that is the way to go. As expensive as performing work to a rotary powerplant is, a brand new paintjob/cutting out rust/welding in new panels will be much more.

I don't think the actual line of the rex is that important. You can always build up a non-Tii faster than a Tii.

have fun.

thanks guys...

LOL I can see the smart ones could figure out my question… ( just kidding J-Rat ) As for body I understand.. I use to work in a bodyshop in HS.. She knows about turbos and I think she would do ok with a TII if I turned the boost down ( stock ) But an NA would be good also I guess.. because she could dump her money in it later if she wants a turbo...
