even if you are, if a cop sees something that doesn't fit he's gonna toss you a ref ticket or take the car.

it is getting that bad here.. thinking even mods like this would save you is wishful thinking. almost better to go all or nothing or move out of state.

the best creative way to get around it is to create a full illusion of a stock car but that would take a bit of work with aftermarket parts or using what mazda gave us and squeezing the most out of it.

agreed 100% which is why i just went ***** crazy! i got a ref ticket when i had an intake and exhaust! so having 900 extra mods isnt gonna change anything and to my knowledge, unless your caught racing, or doing something stupid, they cant tke your car, just give you that very hurtful ticket

Stock heat shields or new ones that are made to look old woudl probably help keep the law off your back.

Are you still doing the HKS TMIC? Not sure how that would go over with them.
Maybe go with a stealth water or alcohol injection as a chemical intercooler?

Don't the rotor housings have some sort of coating on them that help absorb oil also?

dougiepants: as stated in original post, manifold was customized for the external wastegate by elliot at www.turblown.net

fastrotaries: I moved out of pa back in 03, and lived in arizona for 3 years and then moved to cali 1 year again.

it does help when trying to smog the car, i will admit most smog techs are too lazy to look for anything aside from the general smog equipment and the main cat under the car unless something yells out at them from under the hood. problem is once a smog tech does notice it it goes in your cars smog history and most other smog techs will look at that note and focus on it to be sure you aren't trying to slip something past them.

i remember the days when smog techs would just do the sniffer and barely look over the engine bay but now i see them doing everything under the sun as far as the test goes, vacuum testing the EGR, testing the solenoids for voltage, checking base timing and checking for codes.

Thats how it is here, hell I've put single turbo cars through smog, with no airpump or a/cv and no one noticed a damn thing..

Around here they don't care. There's no emissions where I live, but they still don't even look for a cat, at least where I take it. They make sure all the lights work and that it runs, then pass me. I even passed with a obvious exhaust leak a few years ago. Thank God for Texas.

Yeah, wouldve been nice to have this kind of money to put into my car if I still lived in AZ. Would have a better intercooler setup and a full sized turbo and some other changes....
