Nice, I aprove Whats the story on your intake? With some kind of hood scoop? I see you also have your six ports removed.... What else have you done to your car?

the story on the intake is i was bored one weekend and wanted a little project actualy, i just figured the less the bends and lips and ripls in the intake the better. the stock intake bends round, and has that little lip everyone is talking about shaving off, and the inside has ripples, so i just did away with teh whole ducting.

A small hood scope was going to be made to go on there, but the motor has since lost compression. over thanksgiving weekend i was gone on a trip with my church, and my dad flooded my car, i pulled the fuse, and got it started, and it just didnt feel quite as fast. so i check the compression, and the front rotor sees, 70,70,70 and the rear was 60,60,60, but i checked it again this weekend and the rear went up to 65,65,65. i checked teh compression about 6 months ago and was seeing 90 on all 3 on the front, and 85 on all three in teh rear. im going to try the atf trick over Christmas break(dont have todrve teh car everyday then) and see if i can get some compression back in it. either way though, i am planning on putting in a T2motor real soon, hopefully with the money from Christmas i'll have enough money to do it, if not it wont be untill summer with some student loans, hehe. I already ahve a T2 trans sitting in my room rightnow

i dont care what anyone says, removing the 6 ports is the best mod ever! you may loose a *slight* amount of low end, but you do gain ALOT top end. I didnt have much power past 6800rpm before that, but after a removed them i have power up to 7500rpm now! i cant prove it with dyno numbers, but i do have timeslips to show that it droped a few tenths.

as for the mod list, lets see how much i can remember
stock motor 158,000miles
black magic efan
griffin rad

6 ports

and i think thats about it.

the car ran the time in the sig on a nice cool night. I am really happy with the car so far, but i would be happier with a turbo, na's just are not fast enough. a freind of mine got his 85 300zx running finaly, with a t04 and sds, runs a 12.7. afer riding in that, i have wanted a new motor!

oh, i knew i would for get some stuff. for body work, it has the trim filled in, and the sideskirts from mazdatrix. wingwest makes the side skirts ithink. A friend of mine was driving my car spun out and tagged a fence post so thats when i went ahead and did the body work. actulay, the side skrits are covering up some of the damage.

as for the intake, yes it will work on a 90. as for insturctuions:

buy a spare plastic piece. the one that comes off the tb and does the 90 degree bend. cut off the part where it turns. buy a 3in peice of pvc, buy some fiberglass, and fiberglass the pvc to the plactic elbow. make sure everytihng lines up nicly so that it will flow well, and sand down any edges or anything. buy a 3in coupler, and attach the afm to the pvc, and your ready to go! but you will have to ditch the bac to do this mod, b/c when you cut the plastic elobow you end up ditching the hose that runs from the intake to the bac.

as for filling in the trim, i used a product called duraglass, its actualy a fiberglass based filler, its normaly used for marine purpouses. but it doesnt upsorb water or anything like that like bondo does so it should last a while.

oh and as for hp numbers, i have no idea. like i said, i lost compression over thanksgiving weekend. im going to do the atf trick and see if that helps soon. if i get compression back then i'll hit up the next local dyno day and let you guys know

how do you insure that it will be even all the way around?

Readers note: This guy has a clue. That is the best location I have seen for the intake. When he gets the cold box & scoop done it should come close to perfection. Congrats on the side body work also..

probably not a jspec. most likly i am hpoing to find a blown motor for cheap, and then tear it apart and rebuild it,port it, then put it back in. i am hoping to put in a haltech atthe same time, so i wont have to woory about the t2 computer afm, and wiring harness issues. It just really depends on how much mony i get from Christmas as to what i can do immeditatly. like i said, i alrady go thte trans, now i just need a WHOLE lot of other stuff. at the very latest i am hoping to have everything running my summer.

You sir, are a ******* pimp, your car looks outstanding. From the filled in trim, to the rims, to the all black, just fix that hood up and it will be rather great.
Get one of those vented louver type vents, turn it around, won't look bad I think.


like this, only less vents, and bakcwards over where you filled that in.
BTW how sturdy is that fiberglass type bondo filler you used? Does it remove or chip or anything easily. Any problems with it so far?!?!

and please don't ever put a wing on it, it looks just perfect.
And the painted series 4 taillight covers. I sware everytime I look at your car it looks that much better. Damn you!!!

thanks! I cnat explain how much work i have put into that car. What i think would look good for a vent is a vent of of the old 300zx's. I just dont want for the scope to be to big or anytihng, it would ruin the look fo the car. With everything molded to the car i dont want to spoil it by making somthing look out of place. an NO WING will ever go on my car!!

So far i have had no problmes with the filler, but we shall see. I am very impressed with the type of filler. it is SUPER strong. It took me months to finish the car with all the sanding working on it al most everday. the filler is just so darn hard. Its not like bondo where you can sand it into oblivion. With a power sander it took FOREVER to sand that beast. the filler is just incrediably strong. I havent had any problems with it cracking or anything yet, but if i do i will let you know. I have had it like this since august, thats when i finaly got it painted.

I like the all black look. i went ahead and painted the N1, b/c i just think it looks a lot better with it not being crome on a black car. you can see that in the last picture. for some odd reason that last picture is kinda wierd, go figure. I am planning on getting the rims powder coted gunmetal grey, but i have better things to spend the money on right now, so that probably wont happen for qutie some time.

I just ordered a product named Kreen. its from the same peopel that make kroil (super awesome best penitrating oil ever). its specificly desinged to remove carbon deposits, we shall see how it works. I'll post when i use it. I'll take comrression numbers before and after. If i get compression back then i'll p[robably stay na for a little while longer, and do a few other things, (never have got around to porintn the intake mainfold). But i realy want the T2 motor. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress

you should had left the exhaust and leave the rims, you need a tiny bit of chrome/silver to clash, all black doesnt look good (*cough* hondas galore) but gunmetal grey isnt black, but still dark, I think you should keep rims like they are, but whatever you've made enough good choices.

im not real sure about he rims either, but i did some photocop work and i kinda like it, but as i said, it probably wont happen for a while if it happens at all. the exhust painted black realy does look a lot better though. It just stood out to much. but each to there own. im happy with my car!

ahh, i think your talking about the flash to pass lenses... one was clear, and the ohter was all fogged, and the car looked like i twas winking at you, so i took them out, and put some metal mesh from homedepot in. i guess you could call that ricer mod #1. oh well, i think it looks all right. I have a front end in my bakc yard with about 10lbs of bondo on it right now that when im finished i will make a fiberglass copy and put that on my car. but i just need to stop being lazy and finsih it. it will be like the front ends that dont have the pop up head lights, they just make the headlight and the ftp holes on big hole, like the cars that node just posted. but the front end will be in good taste no need to fear!

I admire everything you've done on your car.

what did you use on your intake? when i saw that it really reminded me of the intake that a lot of people do on their mkI mr2s. anyway, I think its a very practical and smart idea. plus it looks like there's a little nook there already (would make a cold air box that much easier to build). a hood scoop would be perfect. Thinking about the schematic/drawing from an FC in a wind tunnel, that part of the hood was a high pressure area. I'll attach the picture so you can see what I mean. even if you have to just cut a hole (tastefully of course) in the hood it wouldn't look bad. what the mr2 guys do is make a lexan cover for the air filter (for rain). before messing with the hood, check to see if you have an aluminum one or not (kind of randomly got put on missmatched cars) its a difference of like 30 lbs (as I remember), so you can understand the importance.

why did you get the new radiator? were you having heating problems with your mods?

tell me a bit more about the filler, when you say it'll last a long time, what's your guess? I was thinking about doing this once I get my tII, but am planning on an expensive paint job so I wouldn't like it to crack someday. you didn't do it with the trim in there, did you (sounds like a stupid question but you never know). would you advise/encourage someone to do this? what's the risk factor with it if you aren't all that experienced with sanding?

I can understand what you did with the exhaust. if I thought it looked out of place then I probably would have done it too.

You picked some very nice wheels for that car. I think that powder coating them gunmetal would be a good idea (I like it). I know some people may not, but they don't have to live with your car. you do, so do what you think looks good.

I honestly think your car looks near to perfection as it is. a body kit could make it look even better, but then again it depends on your taste. I like the lights the way they are, but that's my opinion.
