Question Performance ignition ??'s

Which ones do you guys have and which ones do you recommend for a NA (I'm leaning toward the Crane Hi-6, is this a good choice?). Does anyone have the Jacobs ign or the MSD. Also, will I need to run either colder plugs or higher octane fuel with a performance ign. to prevent detonation? Thanks.

First, I have the Crane Hi-6. Didnt notice any extra performance, but gas mileage went up 3 mpg.

I have been thinking about this a lot, and heres the conclusion I have come to. The Crane Hi-6, along with most aftermarket ignitions will only control 1 coil, on rotaries, everybosy does it to the leading. The MSD DIS-4 controls 3 or 4 coils, so it could control all of the coils on a rotary.

Does anyone here have the MSD DIS-4? Does it have a hesitation problem at 8K, like Ive seen from *some* MSD ignitions on rotaries?

i have the crane as well
i like it, i noticed a little increase in power in low end -probably b/c that is where they make the most difference
and also like mazdaspeed said, a little better gas mileage
for the price, i recomend the crane

Ive always heard and read that preformance ignition should be the last thing done to your car. But I know a kid with the jacobs and he said it wasnt worth the money unless he had more mods. But thats just me.

Don't waste your time/money.&nbsp The DIS-4 can only control an ignition system that fires sequentially.&nbsp So, the 3 or 4 ignition channels have to fire in a row and in sequence with equal times spaces apart.&nbsp This is not the case with the FC ignition system, so this will just confuse the DIS-4.

Now, MSD has come out with their "Stacker" line of ignition boxes in 1, 4 and 8 channel capacities.&nbsp We haven't confirmed if you can use one of these on an FC ignition system.

Well thanks for clearing that up, Ted. I would be really interested in the "Stacker" if it could control all 3 coils.

stay away from the MSD dis-4!!!!!

i did the horrible mistake of buying the MSD dis-4 system for my fc only to find out that is doesn't work for my car after i installed it. that sucked some cow butt cause summit charged me a restocking fee and i had to pay shipping and they were also only going to give me like 70% of my money back because they said it was used and couldn't sell it back out. luckilly i called msd and told them my story and they sent me a new harness and mounting screws and butt connectors and **** like that. now i have a jacobs and a cut and solderd harness on my car due to the mess the msd left behind. (hard as **** to solder the trailing coil connectors back to the car.)

Hey mazdaspeed7- You don't seem to have a problem with your Crane after 8,000 right? My MSD ***** itself whenever I go over 8.

Anyone wanna buy an MSD 6A?

Take your ignition box off, bambam7. Mine is coming off tomorrow. My ignition system was going nuts this weekend, including my dyno run. Ill have the dyno sheet and longer explanation up tomorrow sometime.
