Passing smog ?s

I have around about 160rwp on my 89GXL stock ports stock ecu but afraid I wont pass smog. I will put a new Cat Converter on it and conect my pump but will this be enoughf ? I have a S-AFC and wondering if leaning it out a big will help , what A/F ratio is perfect. My old school Smog Handout says 14.7/1 A/F ratio for near perfect or stoic combustion / efficiancy or something but dont know for sure since my ***** modifies. My A/F ratio on the dyno says around 17/1 A/F ratio when I set the afc to lean.

With the S-AFC I can set the perfect A/F ratio across the board unlike the stock ecu where it fluctuates the A/F ratios but I just dont know what A/F would be optimum.

Another ? I dont want to make another thread for is if I hook up the airpump streight to the cat-converter if it will be better than going through the acv ?

The four gasses are

Co ( carbon monoxide ) To much = not enough OXY
HC ( Hydro Carbons ) To much = miss / to lean/ to rich/ex
C02( Carbon Dioxide) Product of combustion = efficiancy
Nox ( oxides of Nitrogen) Hot engine temps 2500 deg + but mean better oxidization of HC and CO
Oxy( to much = to lean mixture , to rich = low oxy)
exc is Oxy burns fuel so if no fuel = more Oxy avail
and vice versa.

This is for the S-AFC I can lean it out heat up the temps to clean all the Co and Hc but the main killer is more NOX will be produced because of the heat. HOw can I cure this ??? Mabey retard the timing or advance the timing. I think I should retard it a little yeah ? does any of this make sense to anyone ?

if you have all the stock stuff (ports, ecu) then what i would do is put the air pump and acv in like they are supposed to be, and put the s-afc back to 0 at idle and 2500rpms. the stock stuff passes smog, so just make it stock for the test

I dont know about that. I have the pump , cat and ACV but with all the mods I have the stock ECU being a S5 makes my A/F ratio extremely rich.

forget putting the ACV back on and just run the air pump to the cat. it'll work better anyways just don't leave it like that for more then a couple hours cause it'll kill the cat.

tune your s-afc for the best idle.. or try to find a shop with a probe and try to use it for a few mins.

thnx scott I will do that. As with the Probe I know a guy who I dyno with that does my A/F and can get my a/f to 13.8 for max power but noticed 17 . 1 a/f at part throtle. Dont know the optimum point.

the magic potion is called "Guaranteed To Pass" gas additive. pour a bottle (like 20oz or so) in with a full tank of gas. drive the car till the tank is empty, then fill it up again...now go to inspection...

i failed the first time in my n/a running rich. used that **** as a suggestion from a friend. few days later i brought it back and it passed fine...good luck man

I ditched my ACV/EGR and just ran a line straight from the airpump to the cat. It took a little creativity, but nothing the average person can' t handle. I also had to swap back in my stock t2 fuel pump. With the walbro I passed everything...but failed HC's by 4x the legal limit lmao. With the stock fuel pump I was super clean in all categories.
