Question Passengers side window switch only works up despite cleaning

Hello everybody,

I am trying to resolve the last few issues my RX7 has and the windows have been a long standing issue. Basically only my drivers window worked (loudly banging too, but that's a seperate issue) and my passengers appeared dead. I tested the window motor on the passengers side and it does work in both directions, up and down and is quiet too.

I read on here about cleaning the contacts in the window switches and did that last night, both the drivers and passengers side switches. Took them apart and cleaned all the contacts. After reassembling the switched I plugged them back in and tested them.

Right now the driver's side window works as it should, other than banging and skipping, and the passengers side can now be operated by the drivers switch up and down perfectly. But when I try to use the passengers switch I can only make the window go up, not down at all. There isn't even a noise like it's trying to go down, just nothing.

Where do I go from here? Is it possible that I didn't clean one of the contacts (middle recessed contacts possibly) on the passeners window switch well enough?

So cliff notes: cleaned the window switches, drivers side works fine for both windows, passengers side only makes the window go up, not down.

I would greatly appreciate any help getting this sorted out. Thank you very much in advance.

its possible you need a new switch, cleaning them doesnt always work

Maybe, but when you take them apart you see there is nothing to them other than the metal contact strips and contacts, I don't how it couldn't work unless I put it together wrong or failed to clean the one contact. I will take it apart again and verify I haven't missed a contact and that the parts are all facing the right way.

It's just that I am so close here, like 90% functional. I was hoping someone could help me determine if it was the switch not working or if there was a wire than needed to be getting grounded that isn't for it no to work in this particular manner.

Thanks as always!

At the passenger switch, Green wire gets voltage and Red wire gets the ground for the window to go down.

As stated earlier, cleaning does not always work. I know from experience. This would be a good time to install relays after replacing the switch.

they may appear fine but that is not the case, as you may have noticed from the responses.

the pins can become heated and begin to push through the plastic retainer housing which requires more throw to compensate. ie bending the wings slightly more flat through trial and error until it works again, and even then is once more a temporary fix for the main issue which is excessive load on the circuit which will cook the switch again regardless of any attempt to clean the switches which just becomes a common maintenance point.

if you get the switch working again a more proper fix is the double window relay modification, which takes the load completely off the switches and saves them.

i rarely see anything but the switches fail, otherwise you would likely hear the motor turning which would tell you it is working but the problem is probably in the regulator.

Thanks guys. I took the passengers switch apart again and tried to get it working to no avail. I don't quite understand why it's not working but I can't seem to get voltage at the green wires by depressing the passenger's switch. It still works in the up direction and the drivers switch can operate both windows in both directions. At least I can roll it down via the drivers side switch for now.

Misterstyx, I will PM you.
