Tail shaft spline and bushing???

I've found an rx7 for sale at a good price. He says its not drivable right now because the tail shaft spline and bushing need to be replaced. Where are these located?(pics please) and how hard and exspensive would they be to replace? I'd be willing to do them myself if its not to hard. I do have a Haynes manual for te rx7 if that helps at all.

Sorry. It's not a bushing it's the casing. Sounds to me like it has something to do maybe with the drive train and the differential?

Based on your description it sounds like the transmission would have to be rebuilt. If something traumatized the drivetrain enough to strip the splines it seems reasonable to assume there was collateral damage.

Assuming the engine is ok and the diff is ok, swapping in a new-to-you transmission is straightforward as long as you have a friend. You'd want to replace the clutch, throwout bearing, pilot bearing and surface the flywheel while you're at it. R&Ring the tranny is covered in your Haynes manual.

The easiest, and probably cheapest option would be to find another transmission.

Well. I'm asking him and he's telling me that the transmission is perfect. The motor has had a rebuild about 60k ago. He says its the differential and that I can get the parts for $80.
