Passed emissionstests without cats.

Last week it was time for my yearly (in the netherlands it's required every year) emissions test. The local RX-7 shop (Eurorotor ) had the car the whole week so he thought what the heck, gonna try it with the straight pipe, I have time enough to bolt on the cats later, if necessary. He had to adjust the air/fuel ratio until it almost stalled but then CO levels just went below the maximum allowed overhere. This was with the ports wired open and a working air-pump (split-air pipe is welded on the straight pipe).

The car has to be idling during the tests. Does anyone know wat the risk on detonation is when adjusting air-fuel ratios this way ???

Marco.

Do you still have your pre-cats on?
There is no way a car can pass without a cat unless their equipment is faulty...

I don't have the pre-cats either, just a 2.5" pipe from the header to the Y-pipe. but I live in the netherlands in europe. We have emission-laws but they are not as strict as in (some parts of ) the US. The guy form the local RX-7 club said something about 0.35 regarding CO emission but I do not know what goes behind the 0.35. And it could be that the equipment was faulty, in that case I will find that out next year.
