Techncially the production of the US spec and California spec T2 started in early 86 as a 87 model year.

No he doesn't. They where never sold as a 86 model year. 87-91 only.

It might have an 86 build date but run the VIN and see what year it shows.

But yes if you check the VIN, there were no USA spec FC3C T2 models built with a "G" in the 10th digit.
