Part I've never heard of

Ok here is the basic jist. I've had my 7 since 2002. Last year the transmission pretty much broke and I didn't have the money to fix it. Well after long adn hard saving up I got the transmission fixed, however a score of other problems in the car arose. More specifically the heating and cooling don't work. I took it to the shop and the guy says the 'blend door actuator' or 'blendor actuator' something like that is broken, and I need a new one. He says it's a 200-300 dollar part. I have the FSM in my hands and I can find no reference to the this part. Please rotor yoda's out there, you're my only hope. </bad star wars pun>

the blend door opens and closes the air flow to the heater core which allows heat in and in some systems allows the air to pass from the a/c evaporator core.

i doubt the part costs $200-300 but removing the dash to get to it would including the part so you may have misunderstood him. i haven't heard of the doors failing often in FCs so i'm not sure if he just took a stab and said it failed without actually diagnosing it or not.. on the other hand the logicons tend to have handfuls of issues and they are what control the doors.

That makes more sense because the logicon has had issues sense day one. Is there anyway to find out if he was just taking a stab at it or am I going to have to rely on his judgement?

iirc the controls are behind the glove box, remove it and pop the motor out and work the arm by hand and see if the airflow changes, if you feel a change then more than likely the door is fine and the problem lies in the heater core or evaporator core-a/c system depending on which isn't working correctly.
