yeah, it depends on the paint formula you're using. If you're using a two stage Base Coat/Clear Coat system, then the base coat isn't going to shine a lot, the clear coat is going to put it there. But they've got nice shiny enamels and some pretty sweet single stage acrylics, too. Maybe that white doesn't shine as much as a BC/CC, but I think it's pretty sweet. It's like it doesn't shine, but it glows, which is a really cool effect. Regular white doesn't stand out as anything special, but that looks pretty tight. Other than the white emblems A nice sweet bronze on the wheels and emblems would be tight on that car, but that's just my tastes.

This has turned out to be a huge pain in me ****. The color isn't what I wanted it to be, and the last coat I put on got rained on. Now I gotta sand my *** off again to be right back where I started... ugly front end...

I don't shoot cars for $250 anymore. Last and only time I tried it, this one guy brought me a gallon of 350Z blue paint, and a '94 Celica with a new front bumper cover, cracking bondo where someone thought it'd be cool to "delete" the lines from the quarterpanels to the bumper, and damage to the side skirts and back bumper cover. After putting like a week into just doing the body work, he starts saying "When is it going to be done?" Finally I just shoot the thing and it looks good, but still needs color sanding and he says "I need it tomorrow, I'm going to Mexico" I started colorsanding all night and all morning until he gets there, and he says he'll finish up the sanding no sweat.

A week later, his brother the ex-marine starts calling and e-mailing me that he's going to come and kick my @$$ unless I give his little brother the money back because of the crappy job I did. (And I spent more time on that one than I ever spent on any of mine, which are fine). So I sent him a properly formatted message, with a return receipt and CC'd my friend who's a lawyer, and I told him that if he'd like to bring it back, I'll show him what he needs to do to get the mirror finish he wants, and if he'd talked to me before making threats, I would have helped him do it, but if he wants his money back, we'd let a small claims court decide whether there was $250 worth of work in his car, and I had pictures of the condition the car was brought in, and the condition it was in when it left. I told him his brother was welcome to come with him, but if he couldn't behave then I'd happily have the police escort him off my property.
Now I don't paint people's cars unless they're very deserving, and then I don't do it for money. All because of one kid who wasn't mature enough to try and resolve things the right way. In fact, I think he's a member here, and I know he has friends that are.

you have lambo doors on your rx7, you are the last person to talk about "its a rx7 it deserves better"

oh and paint your hood ricer.

and i think my car was painted with it. not sure, it was like this when i got it. i need to give it paint, not due to poor quality, but due to nicks and such, so im going to wait to do it when it is completly done, right before i put a new motor in. ive had it for 3 years this month.

I think it's funny how suddenly people are paint quality experts from photos taken 20 ft away. You guys can't tell from those photos if is was a $2 paint job or a $2000 paint job. The lighter the color, the harder it is to see flaws anyways. Odds are even a $2 paint job looks better than most of the 2nd gens still running around today.

no need for primer if your using the $50 paint job, it bonds to metal fine.

I rollered my new sunroof panel and it turned out so freakin bumpy but I'm too lazy to wet sand it. The sheen is very nice though. I used the same automotive paint I painted the rest of the car with except I couldn't spray gun it (compressor at my parent's house). You can't see any roller marks after you've put a big coat over it. Even with the major orange peel it looks way better than flat black or gray.

Rub it with lacquer thinner....if it softens up, is cheap paint (don't do the center of the hood )

This will tell you if its not a catalysied urethane paint...won't tell you if its rustoleum or tremcald or whatever......just whether or not its good paint material.

I don't think so...not to mention "paint clean up stuff" could be anything from paint thinner to hand cleaner.

Just pick up a gallon of good lacquer thinner, it comes in handy for cleaning up engine parts anyways.

well if you want a quicker method (although it won't tell you what type of material it is)

Just sand a small spot. If the dust comes up white, it BC/CC...if it comes up the colour of the car its some type of single stage.

This won't tell you if its urethane or not though.

Now what "brand" or type of Rustoleum paint do I need to buy? I went looking for some at OSH and they had lots of rustoleum paints, some oil based some enamel. which one do I get? For those that have done this, do you have a SKU or part number from the can that can better help me found the right paint?
